We offer a full health screening, where a blood profile of your pet will indicate if certain precautions need to be taken moving forward.

Such a blood profile can be a good idea if your pet becomes acutely ill or has not shown normal behavior for a while.

For older pets, it is reassuring to know that liver, kidney values, white blood cells, cholesterol, blood count, etc., are within normal ranges. We can have the results within half an hour, especially in cases of acutely ill animals.

We also test for specific diseases such as Cushing’s Syndrome or Addison’s Disease. These are hormonal disorders that require a special testing method.

Another important blood test, if your dog has irregular bowel movements, is to examine pancreatic function.

The much-discussed heartworm, which is transmitted to dogs if they eat a snail, can also be tested at Artemis via a blood sample.

Many older dogs develop low thyroid function, which we also examine through an in-house blood test. This test can be extended with a complete thyroid examination. In these cases, it takes a few days before we receive the full results.

When an older pet comes in for a health check, it is a good idea to take a comprehensive blood profile. Through this, we can determine whether the pet is healthy or if diet adjustments or supplements of various vitamins and minerals are necessary.

Common health issues in older cats can include kidney problems or hyperthyroidism. These values are also checked if a full blood profile is taken.

We also offer allergy investigations. This can include a blood test that specifically checks for allergens the pet may inhale (inhalation allergies/atopy). It’s also possible to test for food and general dietary allergies via a blood test, although the reliability of results for various protein sources, vegetables, and grains is widely debated.

Artemis Animal Clinic offers “in-house” blood tests for your dog or cat.

We offer a full health screening, including a blood test if needed.

Immediate results

A full blood profile can be a good idea if the pet is acutely ill or has been ill for a prolonged period to help identify the cause of the illness.

At Artemis, we perform blood tests in-house and, in urgent cases, can have results within half an hour.

At Artemis, we also offer heartworm testing through a blood sample.

We can also test for Cushing’s Syndrome and Addison’s Disease, which require a special testing method.

Health screening

It can also be relevant to conduct a health screening with a blood test for older pets.

Many “lifestyle diseases” can be detected through a blood test.

Dogs

For dogs, a blood test typically examines liver and kidney values, cholesterol levels, blood count, and signs of infection. In some cases, the test is expanded to check thyroid function and possibly the pancreas.

Cats

For cats, liver and kidney values are examined, as well as blood count and signs of infection. Thyroid function is also checked, as older cats often suffer from hyperthyroidism.

Allergy

Artemis offers allergy screenings. An allergy screening will be supplemented with a blood test, where, for example, testing for allergies to inhaled substances (inhalation allergies/atopy) is conducted.

Artemis also offers disease screening for tick-borne illnesses via a blood sample.

Our partnerships

Artemis collaborates with several laboratories and can offer testing for a wide range of diseases if the in-house facilities lack the capacity to investigate certain issues.
